Caerphilly Castle girls friendly in Cardiff

A proportion of our junior team continued with their pre season preparations this morning, as a new Under 10 team travelled to Cardiff to play a couple of matches against teams from Cardiff Bluebells.

Made up of the older under 9s and younger under 11s from our last season squads, this was the first time the we had fielded an under 10s team, which included 3 girls (Megan H, Skylah and Seren E) making their matchday debuts for the Castle.

The first game proved to be a very close affair.  Emily taking over the goal keeping duties, made a string of good saves.  The game flowed back and forth which both sides having good chances to break the deadlock in the first half, though to no avail.

The 2nd half continued very much like the first – both teams going through periods where they dominated possession and chances before the opposing side managed to find an edge to exert themselves more on the game.  It was the Bluebells who managed to snatch the goals though.  The first from another excellent cross which deflected in the net, and a second right on the death which across the whole game may have flattered the home team, though probably a deserved victory in the end.

The 2nd game proved to be a very different affair, where our girls found themselves up a against an extremely well organised and drilled team, who from the off displayed some quality touches and passing movement which quite frankly, had our girls chasing shadows.

The girls dug in deep though, with Sienna taking over the reigns in goals making a string of good saves, and which saw Megan R really getting stuck in in midfield, and Jersey really coming into the game towards the end.

It ended with a convincing, and well deserved victory for the home team.

Both games were played an a fantastic spirit.  A great bunch at Cardiff Bluebells – coaches, players and parents alike.  Thank you very much of for the hospitality – and even putting the rain off by kick off!  We look forward to our next encounter.
