After a long summer the new football season is almost upon us, and all of us at Caerphilly Castle Ladies and Girls FC can’t wait!
And what a great event to act as a curtain lifter for the new season! On Thursday, a number of players from our minis teams will be popping down to watch the Welsh Ladies team train ahead of their massive game the next day. A massive thank you to Rosie’s Father for sourcing these tickets for us.
And then on Friday evening, we will be taking over 100 club members, including players, parents, coaches, and volunteers, down to Rodney Parade to cheer on the Wales Ladies in their quest for World Cup Qualification as they take on our neighbours England in a winner takes all match!
The season then starts in earnest for our Ladies, who on Sunday 2nd of September will be playing their first match of the season in the Welsh Women’s League when they take on newly promoted Willows Ladies in Cardiff.
This year, we are delighted to be expanding on the 2 teams we entered last year into the South Wales Women and Girls League, as we plan for 6 teams to represent Caerphilly Castle playing across the area. We will be entering 2 Unders 8 teams, and 1 team each in the Under 9s, Under 10s, Under 11s, and Under 12 categories this season. All the girls have worked really hard training throughout the summer, and it will be really exciting to see how much their hard work has paid off when we start in our league games.
We are still awaiting full fixture details for most mini teams, though the 1st set of fixtures for the Under 12s have been announced. The U12 section has 29 teams split into 4 Regional Divisions (Central, East, North & West). They will initially play one fixture of 30 minutes each way. After completion they will form Divisions based on League positions and continue on the same basis Home and Away. Our Under 12s will starting their season with a home tie against Llantwit Fardre.
As we continue preparations for the season ahead, we are still actively recruiting players across all teams, including Ladies and Minis sections. So whether you are a current/previous player looking for a new challenge, or have always fancies giving football a go, but didn’t know where to start, then now you do! New players are always welcome at our training session. Our Ladies and Under 15s train at at Morgan Jones Park on a Tuesday evening 7-8pm), whereas our minis section (ages 6-12) train at the same location on Wednesday evenings 6-7pm. If you have any queries, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
Up the Castle!
