U10s at Cardiff Gol Centre – Week 6

U10s at Cardiff Gol Centre – Week 6

Five entertaining games for the U10’s down at Cardiff’s Gol centre as the winter program entered game-week 6 of 8.

Starting the first game against Treowen with the bare 6 it wasn’t long before some late arrivals made up a squad of 10 on the day through Ellie-may, Ava, Ella, Grace, Meg B, Lexi, Layla, Sophia, Skye and Tayla.

Caerphilly again took a little while to get into their stride, with only a solitary goal from Tayla to show for their efforts in the first two games, meaning a draw against Treowen and coming up second best against an energetic Fairwater FC.

Luckily the slightly lethargic started was soon to be replaced with the usual high energy style that we have become accustomed to from the girls.

A strong start against Tredegar ‘A’ saw Layla get on the score sheet with a length-of-the-pitch goal, before Grace found her scoring boots and put away brace to reward a strong all around performance from the girls. Layla, playing in goal pulled off a string of great saves from the Gwent outfit, with Ellie-may also coming close for Caerphilly in a powerful performance from midfield.

Game 4 against Sully saw a high paced game that really could have gone either way. Good performances from Meg B and Lexi at the back, and Ava and Sophia helped Caerphilly get their noses in front thanks to a good strike from Grace. The game swung the way of the pinks thanks to two unstoppable strikes from their powerful midfielder, Amelia (a player who Caerphilly know well having represented the yellows when short at Tredegar in the autumn).

Although coming out second best in game 4 Caerphilly were nearly back to their best and were starting to play with their usual pace and find their passing game. This was to continue into game 5, against Llantwit Major. The girls really found their feet and its fair to say had the upper hand for the entire game. A goal from Ellie-may settled the nerves after some near misses from Skye, before braces each for Tayla and Grace rounded off a great morning’s football. Llantwit did manage to beat the excellent Meg in defence and agile Ella in goal on the one occasion but Caerphilly weren’t to be denied and finished the day on a high.

Thanks to Treowen, Fairwater FC, Tredegar A, Sully and Llantwit major for games played with fun but competitive spirit throughout.
