U9s beat the washout

U9s beat the washout

After 2 weeks of postonments, and Storm Gareth also putting pay to many parks fixtures across Caerphilly Borough and neighbouring counties, the Under 9s were desperate to get into action this week.  Luckily, with good forward planning from this week’s host Thornhill Athletic in booking matches down at Powerleague in Cardiff, their matches got the green light and the girls enjoyed a excellent mornings football under the spring sunshine.

The girls played out three tough games against opponents from Cascade, Aberdare as well as the hosts Thornhill.

All three games saw some neat play by the Caerphilly girls, as well as identifying a few opportunities to work upon in training.

In the first match against Cascade a brace a piece from Olivia and Skyla gave the travelling Caerphilly parents plenty to cheer about.  Further goals in the next two matches from Olivia (2), Jersey and Kacey got Caerphilly on the scoreboard in all games.

At the back, whilst in goals, Jersey continued to display some superb reflexes pulling off a couple of magnificent saves.  Lilly, Martha and Caitlin worked hard in defence breaking up many opponents attacks.  Playing every position across the three games, Kacey continued to display excellent progress in her footballing development being rewarded with her goal against Thornhill.

Tireless running in attack saw Heidi getting in plenty of goal scoring opportunities, and though close on a couple of occasions to grabbing herself a goal, she never really had the rub of the green.

An enjoyable morning football for the Under 9s.  All the girls continued to play with a smile on their face throughout, and kept going to the end in all matches. Man of the match went to Skylar for her continual determination to get on the ball, and endless running.

Many thanks to our hosts Thornhill for todays games, and also to Aberdare and Cascade for 3 very sporting games.

See you back at training on Wednesday girls!
