Futsal Week 6 Brings CCLGFC Derby!

Futsal Week 6 Brings CCLGFC Derby!

It was a bright and early start for both our Futsal squads today as for week 6 they travelled to Port Talbot.  Opposition came in the form of Llantwit Major and Baglan Boys and Girls, and also ourselves, as Caerphilly Castle 1 played Caerphilly Castle 2.

First up was Caerphilly Castle 1 against familiar opposition in Baglan Boys and Girls.

Throughout the game, the Caerphilly girls continued to build on excellent recent performances, with some sublime passing, finishing, and also defensive prowess.  Some of the interplay between the front three of Holly, Bethan and Georgia was exceptional, whilst Megan and Seren at the back keeping Sofija in goals with very little to do.  The game proved an excellent run out for the girls, and the improvements week on week in the girls play is a delight to behold.

The 2nd match of the day saw Caerphilly Castle 2 face new opposition in Llantwit Major.

Not to be outdone by their peers in the first game, the Castle Girls once again managed to get on the front foot from the off, and dominate a game providing Llantwit with few attacking opportunities.

Once again, the interplay between the girls showed the hard work in training continuing to pay off, with the passing between  Gwen, Maya, Erin and Sienna carving out countless goal scoring opportunities.  At the back, Emily C was unbeatable, with great positioning play ensuring any oppositions attacks were well dealt with, and again, leaving Emily W in goals with only a few saves to make.

Another great performance from the Castle girls.

Next up the big one.  Caerphilly Castle 1 (led by James), v Caerphilly Castle 2 (led by Gwyn).

In what proved to be a tough encounter for both teams.  Knowing what to expect from each other, the sides in the main cancelled each other out.  It was the defenders who came out on top in the main, with the number of clear cut chances created by both teams limited, though it was team 1 who found the first opening with a thunderbolt from Holly putting them ahead.  The game ebbed and flowed, but another goal for Bethan and Caerphilly 1 followed as Caerphilly 2 were changing goalkeepers. This gave a little bit of space between the two sides before Sienna struck back for Caerphilly 2 to leave a very tense few final minutes.  No more goals though saw the game end, with all smiles at the end, leaving James with the bragging rights which I’m sure he won’t let Gwyn forget in a hurry…

Straight back on court for game 3, Caerphilly Castle 2 took on Baglan, in what proved a similar game to their first encounter.  Caerphilly dominated possession and again, some excellent interplay between the girls and very industrious work from Maya preventing the opposition any clear opportunities.  Goals from Emily W, Maya and Sienna could have been added to on many occasions had it not been for yet another incredible display from the Baglan goalkeeper who made a string of wonderful saves.

Finishing off the morning programme was Caerphilly 1 v Llantwit.

Again, Caerphilly dominated possession, and created a glut of chances through some clinical passing and through balls.  Again at the back, Seren thwarted any attacks with Sofija acting as a spectator for much of the game.  Goals from Georgia, Holly, Megan, Beth, and Seren saw all outfield players on the scoresheet, coupled with the clean sheet from Sofija ending the day on a high note for the Caerphilly girls.

In all, an excellent morning’s football through and through for the Caerphilly Castle U11s. The way their games have developed over the last 6 weeks in the Futsal arena is quite outstanding. Along with the great camaraderie, support and friendships the girls display for one another is a wonderful thing to witness.

Many thanks to our opposition for the 4 games all played in an excellent spirit throughout with numerous examples of great sportsmanship.

It’s back to training Wednesday, when we are really excited to be joined by the film cameras from the FAW along with Wales International Tash Harding!

Cheers all, and well done once again!
