On November 19th, we were delighted to have our junior section play their first match since their formation two months ago.
It’s been a whirlwind of a journey getting to this point!
The story starts with a couple of youngsters (Megan and Sienna) eager to join a local girl’s football club which they could easily access. Their parents James and Gwyn got in contact with the club, and they invited the girls to join in with the Ladies and Under 15s side at Morgan Jones Park for training.
Along they went and loved it, and were made to feel really welcome and supported by everyone involved. It’s fair to say from that point in there was no going back!
After a few weeks training with the ladies, and further interest from other girls interested in joining a girls only football club in Caerphilly Town it was decided we’d look at reforming the junior sides.
James and Gwyn were approached to see if they’d like to help out with coaching/managing the teams, and they happily agreed.
So there it was. On the 19th of September, the Junior section held their first training session at Morgan Jones’s Park. Unsure quite what to expect we were delighted to have 11 girls turn up, and by all accounts have a jolly good time!
After a couple of weeks, with the night’s drawing in, we moved our training session to the gymnasium at St. Martins School, but after only 3 weeks there, with attendance numbers increasing week on week, it was obvious we had quickly outgrown that facility.
A couple of calls for a better venue and we managed to secure St Cenydd Leisure Centre as a new home, and haven’t looked back!
All the girls love the training, and their eagerness and positive attitude is infectious!
We are continuing to look at expanding our numbers, and aim to get a team/teams registered to complete in the South Wales Women’s and Girls League in the New Year. In the mean time, we’re arranging a host of friendly fixtures to get the girls match practice, where all the girls can play in.
New players – girls between 7-11 are more than welcome to join us at training – in fact they actively encouraged to come along, so if you know anyone who may be interested, please get in touch. We’d love to hear from you!
It’s been a really exciting 2 months. And here’s looking forward to the continuing development of the teams in 2018!
