Ladies suffer home defeat

Welsh Women’s League (WWL) (Adults)

Familiar opposition faced us today, in the way of Briton Ferry Llansawel Ladies, who we have played twice within the last few weeks in cup competitions.  It was a league fixture today however, though unfortunately it didn’t mean a change in fortunes for the Castle girls.

Having been relegated from the Welsh Premier League last season, Briton Ferry are looking to secure a swift return, and judging by the quality of some of their play today, they look very worthy of a top-flight position.

The game started very competitively, with Caerphilly pressing well, and the opening exchanges suggested a much closer tie than our previous match ups. After 20 minutes however, Briton Ferry broke the deadlock, and never looked back.  Their passing, movement, and general technical ability on the ball meant it was difficult for Caerphilly to match with.  Castle did however manage a few chances, and a good move saw Caerphilly awarded a penalty which was put away with aplomb, meaning that Briton Ferry weren’t going to go away with a third consecutive clean sheet against us.

A deserved victory for Briton Ferry in the end.

The Caerphilly girls will now be brushing themselves down, and getting ready for a huge game on Tuesday evening when we face a bottom of the table clash in a real 6 pointer against Cwmbran Celtic.
