U10s – Mini’s section enjoy Summer Friendlies

It was a busy morning for our mini section todays, with games for our Under 8s, 9s, and 10 taking on Treowen Stars, and our Under 11s being supported by some u12 players matching up against Brynnau Juniors.

All the teams gave their all, in a series of very competitive games.

Under 10s

Fresh from a break in games and with a new face in our ranks our under 10’s got back into the swing of it today and made the trip to face @treowengirlsfc . In our first game against the Newbridge-based team it was clear from the off that the home side like to play an attractive, expansive style of football. Both sides settled well, under the warm July sun but it was Treowen that got into their attacking game earliest  and despite a great finish from Grace and some strong defensive play , from Ava and Seren E in particular, it was Treowen that eventually came out on top.

The second game gave the chance to try out a few more combinations amongst our newly assembled team. Again, the match was played in great spirit with both times giving everything in the hot conditions.  Caerphilly were always in the game after a great goal from Layla, who calmly put away the rebound after her first effort struck the upright. In a similar pattern to the first game however, it was the home side helped with the ability to call on some fresh legs and continue with their passing-style of football, that got the upper hand.

In the third game Caerphilly were in a position to welcome Lexi for here first start for the club. Not looking over-awed at all in the heart of defence she helped the yellow and blues recover from a slow start and get back in the game with two great finishes from Tayla.  Several other chances just eluded the Caerphilly team with Layla working tirelessly again and at the heart of everything good for the girls. However, with the heat now starting to take its toll, history repeated itself with the home side just getting over the line for the win.

The option of a final game proved too strong to resist for the girls, so again took to the field. Without any substitutes for the final match the girls’ massive efforts in the first 3 games started to tell. It was not through lack of trying though, a new defensive pairing of Megan and Lexi showed real promise with both girls looking  like they had learned from the previous games with many assured touches. Caerphilly again had chances with Grace, Ava, Seren G and Tayla going close. The homeside again looked the freshest and played some fantastic footbal to come out on top.

Overall 4 games that provided further team bonding for the girls and some learning points from a very strong home team. Thank you  again to the hosts, Treowen on putting on a great mornings football. Onwards and upwards for our U10’s
