CAERPHILLY CASTLE LADIES & GIRLS FC AWARDS NIGHT 2018

Saturday 23rd June 2018.

Venue – Virginia Park Golf Club, Caerphilly.

Caerphilly Castle Ladies and Girls Football Club were delighted to host their annual presentation evening last Saturday at Virginia Park Golf Club.

Over 150 people attended including players from all age groups, parents, coaches, and club volunteers to help celebrate the clubs achievement over the last season.

Playing in the 2nd tier of ladies football in the welsh footballing pyramid,  (The Welsh Women’s League), the Ladies team found much of the season hard going, especially over the winter months when the hard winters’ snow and continual rain played havoc with the fixture schedules. Additionally, playing against some big teams who would certainly be worthy of a place in the Welsh Premier League made for a very testing season. However the team battled hard throughout the season, winning much admiration from opposition teams for their determination to keep going and never giving up.

It was in the cup competitions where many of the season highlights came for the Ladies, with a great run in the Alun Evans cup seeing them unbeaten in the group stages, and progressing to the quarter finals of this competition to go along with a Semi Final Appearance and another Quarter Final appearance in the South Wales Cup, and the Welsh Women’s League League cup respectively.

The Ladies Team winners for 2018 were as follows:-

Coaches Player of the Year – Tegan Evans
Players Player of the Year – Chloe Dobson
Most Improved Player – Tyler Clash
Golden Boot – Jess Walkley
Goalie Awards – Nia Rich and Alisha Jones.

Along with the Ladies, the club started the season with an Under 15s, who unfortunately had to withdraw from the league mid season, though a core group of players remain training with the Ladies and the club are hopeful of attracting further additions to the Junior/Youth set up over the closed season ready for competition in 2018/2019.

Arguable the highlight for the club was the resurgence in the Mini Section.

Starting the season without any mini teams, 4 girls (Megan, Sienna, Elin, and Lundun) came along and started training with the ladies in September 2017, and keen to establish a mini team, two of the girls parents – James Law and Gwyn Roberts agreed to help out with coaching.  The Mini’s has since gone from strength to strength.

A designated mini training group formed in October with 12 girls coming along to the first session. By December, numbers had grown and the club was able to register two teams – an Under 9 and Under 11s to play in the South Wales Women’s and Girls League mini’s section. From the first games the development of the girls in their footballing development has been incredible, and a real pleasure to see.

Since the turn of the year, the section has continued to grow, now with over 50 girls aged 6-12 now training with the club at Morgan Jones Park on a Wednesday Evening 6-7pm..

Whilst every girl who had been training with the club received a trophy to make sure the achievement of all were recognized, some special awards were also awarded to the following:-

Under 11s Player’s player of the year – Bethan Llewellyn
Under 11’s Appearance Awards – Megan Roberts and Sienna Law
Under 9s Player’s player of the year – Grace Olsen
Under 9s Appearance  Award – Heidi Roberts.

The Mini section is now looking forward to the new season ahead. We are planning on entering teams at under 8s, 9s, 10s, 11s and 12s in the SWWGL – covering girls in school years 2 to 7.
