Absentees return to boast Under 9s

Absentees return to boast Under 9s

After last weeks squad decimation of our under 9 team, we were nearly back to full strength this weekend for a visit up the Valleys to face Cascade, and near neighbours Llanbradach.

We started the morning with two very different games against our hosts’ two team.

The first started cagley form both sides as the girls were finding their feet, with most of the girls playing in differing positions as the coaches tried out a few different formations.

Jersey provided a solid foundation in goals, saving numerous opposition  chances and getting the ball out of defence well.  It was Heidi who got on the scoresheet first though with a well taken finish, before soon after bagging another after winning possession and confidently running up the field with the ball before slotting neatly home in the corner.  Confidence grew throughout the team, and not be be outdone, Maria and Skyla matched Heidi’s achievements before Olivia got in on the action.

With Caitlin, Lilly and Isabel all taking turns in defensive positions, and countering any threats from the home, the Caerphilly girls looks assured and it was great to see their hard work from training playing off.

The second game started very differently.  Seemingly asleep at the starting whistle, Cascade quickly got on the score sheet.  The game flowed back and forth with further chances created by both teams.  The Cascade goalkeeper commanding his box well though to prevent the Caerphilly girls adding to their daily tally.

Our third and final game proved another great encounter – this time against our local Neighbours Llanbradach.

With some real quality in the opposition ranks, it proved a tough game, but very close.  Llanbradach opened the scoring with an absolute belter of a goal which would be worthy of gracing any pitch! – A bullet volley into the top corner which drew applause from all areas of the crowd.  With a few changes in formation, Caerphilly battled well to get back into the game, with further chances form both teams, with Jersey making a host of quality saves.  Olivia did manage to get on the scoresheet again right at the end with the final kick of the match.

In all a very enjoyable morning up in Gelligaer.  Many thanks to our hosts Cascade, and our opposition from Llanbradach.  All games were played to an excellent spirit, and all girls really enjoyed themselves.  We look forward to further match-ups in the future.
