Under 10s Treowen Friendly

Caerphilly Castle ladies and girls u10’s today travelled to Treowen in the last warm up match before embarking on the 2018/ 19 league campaign. The girls welcomed Elle-May and Summer making their debuts amongst the largest match day squad we have seen for the yellow and blacks to date, 10 players meaning the luxury of 2-3 resting at any time.

In the first of the two games, an 8 v 8 encounter, the travelling side tried out some new player combinations while also playing a 3-3-1 set up for the first time, and to great effect.  The team played a high, pressing game backed by very strong defensive performances from Seren Edwards in goal,  Ellie-May and Lexi and an assured performance from Ava in the centre of the park. The girls found the formation suited their playing style with great goals from Grace, Megan B, Tayla and a brace from Layla to round off an impressive all around effort.

The second encounter reverted to 7v7 with Caerphilly trying another new set up, a 2-3-1 formation. With Ellie-May and Lexi again at the heart of the defensive effort, playing with the assurance beyond their experience as a pairing, and Ava moving to the goalkeeping duties the game got off to a high pace start. The home team applied early pressure with great interchange play and impressive shooting from range.  Early home goals set the tone and it was clear that the Caerphilly team had to dig deep and show the qualities that helped so much in the first game. The efforts across all players on both sides were immense, as was the spirit in which the game  was played. As the Caerphilly players became more accustomed to the new formation, the midfield in particular started to settle in to a great pattern of play. Several great efforts from Megan B, Tayla, Megan H and Summer, typifying the efforts they put in all game, managed to somehow stay out of the home-side’s goal but Layla again found her shooting boots, scoring another 4 well taken goals to reward both her own personal efforts and the team’s never-say-die attitude on the day. Grace playing with her usual  composure slotted home the othet away goal in what was another brilliant team performance.

All around, a morning of fun with great football on show from both sides. Thank you to Treowen for hosting the encounter and for everyone that came out to cheer both sides on!!
