Under 11s avoid the washout on Armistice day.

With the heavy rain over the last couple of days, it was only the Under 11s match which was played out for our mini/junior section today, with the U8s/9s/10s and 12s all being postponed.

It was a first trip to DInas Powys for the U11s as they were looking to get back to winning ways following a first defeat for some time last weekend.

The girls started with a game against Thornhill.  For once, being the experienced team on the pitch, Caerphilly controlled large periods of the game, and playing to a high tempo gave the opposition very little room to maneuver.

Together with solid possession, the girls managed to make their pressure count, and a hat-trick from Holly (which included a very impressive right foot curler from outside the box), along with goals from Bethan, Lucy and Georgia ensured a positive result for the Castle girls.

After an impeccably observed minutes silence for Armistice day,  it was onto the 2nd match of the day against the hosts Dinas Powys.

In a competitive first few opening exchanges, it was the hosts who opened the scoring.  For once though, Caerphilly remained undeterred and straight from kick off, moved up the field to bring the scores back level.

Whilst both teams enjoyed periods of attacking, it was Caerphilly who made the most of their opportunities.   Goals form Holly, Georgia, Lucy (2), and Emily W(2), and a very unfortunate own goal kept the scoreboard ticking over for Caerphilly.  The Castle girls dominated the play form the 2nd half onwards, and although it is nice to score, by far the most rewarding aspect of the game was the development the girls showed in some of their play.  A good range of passing and  movement was shown across the board, and some tireless tracking back and last ditch tacking ensuring the team were as successful in defence as they were in attack.

A very pleasant morning.  Thanks to our hosts, and to Thornhill for two great game played in a great spirit throughout.

Lest we Forget.
